Credit rating
A credit rating is an assessment of an issuer’s or a bond issue’s ability to meet its financial obligations. Assigned by independent credit rating agencies, it reflects the level of default risk on a scale ranging from the highest credit quality (AAA) to the most speculative categories. It is a key benchmark for assessing the credit risk of an investment.
